This all seemed very lame to me, and quite against the spiritual aspects of the original group. I also found a new-ish looking site which at the time was selling Process t-shirts (!!!) and the like. The interest seemed to me to have more to do with the Processes' uniforms and the aforementioned symbol than with Robert DeGrimston Moore's writings or thought, but YMMV. had sort of 'hijacked' the group's name/image (especially that 'cool' swastika-looking symbol). But I could be wrong about the group's name.įrom what I could gather in my research, Psychic TV, Skinny Puppy & Co. I believe this was the Society of the Processeans, who have a link on DisInfo's page on the Process which sadly no longer works. There was a really interesting page up on the web at that time, put together by a former member who was seeking to find other old members it seemed as though they were interested in getting things going again. For example, Timothy Wyllie's book “Love, Sex, Fear, Death: The Inside Story of The Process Church of the Final Judgment” denies that manson officially joined, but talks about how the church visited Manson, and the book 'The Family' by Ed Sanders has a chapter (which was removed in later editions, after he was sued by the church) that explains why he believes Mansion was associated with this church.I got really interested in the Process a few years back, partly because I found out they had had a church in Toronto 30 years ago or so.

It was a major topic during the Manson trial and a number of books have been written about Manson's connections with the group. Even manson himself claimed to be the founder of the religion, and the church actually published some of Manson's teachings. I wouldnt say that the accusations are baseless. If you look at their beliefs, you can see a lot of overlap with Satanism too, such as their belief that Satan is not evil and is just as holy as Jehovah and Jesus. If you read through the whole article, you can see that it gives several sources for people, including the leaders themselves identifying the group as Satanic. I also wish people would stop freaking out at any mention of Satan or Satanism and actually educated themselves on the subject (especially when they're discussing groups that aren't Satanists). In a subreddit that aims to educate and inform, we really should refrain from spreading misinformation like this. Sorry bud, but the title is just horribly inaccurate and sensationalistic. While we're at it, the article also mentions that the claims that Charles Manson was ever related to the group are baseless, and were basically fear-mongering propaganda. Heck, they even eventually turned into a full-on Christian group. Later on, the description of the cult's beliefs really does not fit Satanism, and it just seems to use the word as part of said beliefs. Even the one source mentioned in the 'definition' part admits that it doesn't really fit. Like pretty much every time Satanism is mentioned in relation to criminal activities, I'm going to go ahead and assume it's bullshit and the group has nothing to do with Satanism whatsoever, and the term is just used a short-hand for 'not Christian'.Įdit: sure enough, all the article says is 'Some scholars of religion classified it as a form of Satanism' without providing any source nor explaining who they are, what authority they have to make such classifications or what lead them to that conclusion.
